Ancient Greece History

       

Greece has had its culture and traditions evolved a thousand years ago. Today’s Greece is just the result of various transformations it has undergone during all these years. Let us throw a look on Ancient Greece, the secrets that will be uncovered.

History:

Numerous civilizations have contributed to the Greece that we see today. The civilizations which were believed to have existed are Pre- Hellenic civilization and several others. Let’s take a look on some key influences.

In the Middle Bronze Age (2000 BC) some tribes migrated into the Balkan Peninsula who became what we know about them today as Greeks. Helladic is generally the Bronze Age of the proto Greeks. The Mycenaean culture in 1150 BC collapsed and it led to massive depopulation. The Dorians then entered. When the Bronze Age collapsed Greece entered into the Dark Age.

The Greek Dark Ages was followed by the archaic period. The 8th, 7th and 6th centuries represent the Dark Ages of Greek history.

The 5th and 4th centuries represent the Age of Classical Greece when Greece started developing its culture slowly.

Hellenistic Greece:

This period lasts from 323 BC to the annexation of the Roman Public in 146 BC. This was soon followed by the advent of Romans in Greece. It started the period of Roman Greece.

Greek started spreading Colonies to all parts of the world. Even today the remains of a theater at Taornima in Italy are a great example.

Greek Philosophy

Greek philosophy focused on reason and enquiry. They have always had the quest for knowledge and their philosophy is still searching the civilizations of Babylonians and the ancient Egyptians.

Literature:

The literature of Ancient Greece was limited because of the so many civilizations taking place. Their ideas of thoughts were never really good as their literature lost against the mightier countries.

Art:

Art in Greece was at its peak during the period of Greece. The Apollo and Nike in marble was a Roman copy of the Hellenistic period. It is a good example of the Roman Art.

Religion and Mythology:

Their mythology talks about gods and heroes. The twelve main Greek gods are Zeus, his wife Hera, Poseidon, Ares, Hermes, Aphrodite, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Demeter, and Hestia. The important deities are the Hebe, Helios, Hades, Dionysus, Persephone and Heracles. So a lot of mythology beliefs are their in Greek’s heart.
